Hannah Rigby - Matthew Cuthbert

Hannah Rigby plays Matthew Cuthbert, the lovable old adopted father of Anna. “I love playing him, even though he is quite hard to play .. but the best part is that he is the caring character in the production.” Hannah is very busy in the schools music life, participating in the R&B band, Senza Regazzi, Senior Choir and doing singing lessons. She does piano and guitar lessons, and has experience in film and television. She has done many musicals inside and outside of school and is a member of the Gold Coast Dance company. Hannah believes she will benefit from this production as, “it is great experience and help a lot in the arts industry.” Hannah will use this experience to get ahead in a career on stage, “.. It’s definitely what I want to do.” Hannah’s advice for girls wanting to one day appear on stage is, “Work hard and persevere. Keep your head up, and remember that dedication is what will help you achieve anything you want.”

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Buckley - Gibert Blythe

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Buckley plays Gibert Blythe, the cheeky but soft-hearted admirer of Anne. Lizzie is, “..loving it. I was so excited to start rehearsals. I seem to always play a boy, so I’m used to that side of the character. But he really is a fun part to play because he has so many feelings.” Lizzie has loved participating in the arts – doing dancing, drama and choirs since she can remember. This year she is a school drama captain, and enjoys spreading news and experiences about school drama as much as engaging in it. Lizzie believes the best benefits from this performance will be the experience gained in the arts industry, an area she would love to be involved in for a career, “I love meeting new people, and I especially love the cast. They are so fun to work with .. and its great to work alongside friends. I’ve also never been in a chorus before so that’s been new and interesting.” Lizzie has some valuable advice girls hoping to one day to have a main role in a production like this, “ Seize opportunities, don’t ever think you’re not good enough. You can always achieve what you want to achieve, and it will definitely be worth it in the end.”

Rebecca Hale-Marilla Cuthbert

Rebecca Hale plays Marilla Cuthbert, Anne’s guardian in Avonlea. As very proper old woman who likes things being done the her way, Rebecca is looking forward to playing such a “practical” character. “Even though in the beginning, Marilla wants a boy [from the orphanage] she ends up warming up to Anne and only wants the best for her.” So far, Rebecca says that rehearsals have been, “so much fun .. I’m always excited to go.” Rebecca has taken drama as a subject at school and been involved in countless theatre productions in her home town of Ballina and at school. Rebecca thoroughly enjoys performances, as “a nice escape from all the work of school, I’m continuously getting challenged, and it’s a lot of fun.” The happiness that Rebecca gets out of performing has led her to consider a career on stage in the future. The simple advice that Rebecca has for girls who want to be on stage is, “go for it.”
