Anne of Green Gables: A Musical

is a stage rendition of the popular Canadian novel of the same name written by Lucy Maud Montgomery and features the story of an orphan; Anne who finds herself accidently adopted by siblings, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. Despite wanting a boy, the two embrace Anne’s imagination and passion and soon find life at Green Gables all the better for her.

The musical adaptation of this story was first performed in 1969 and has been performed every year since in Carrefour Theatre in Prince Edwards Island, Canada; the setting of the novels and the residence of Green Gables. Adapted by Donald Harron with music by Norman Campbell the pair has written some fan-favorite songs including ‘Ice-Cream’, ‘Summer’ and the hauntingly beautiful ‘Anne of Green Gables Theme’.

St Hilda’s School is excited to be able to bring the story of Anne of Green Gables to the Gold Coast Arts Centre and we feel Anne is a role-model to all our girls: someone who is kind, inspiring, hard-working and dedicated to her friends and family and her studies. As St Hildas School celebrates its centenary year we are glad we can do it along with Anne who proves that looks are not everything (even if those looks comes with ‘carrot-coloured’ hair and freckles!) it’s what is on the inside that really counts!

With an awe-inspiring range of talented musicians, dancers, singers and actors, Anne of Green Gables: A Musical showcases the very best performers St Hildas School have to offer. With a cast and crew of over two hundred and the full St Hilda’s School band the stage will be overflowing with talent, enthusiasm and energy. Our lead actors, chosen for their extremely impressive acting, dancing and singing ability are honing their skills to give the best performance they can and include Victoria Bailey as Anne Shirley, Rebecca Hale as Marilla Cuthbert, Hannah Rigby as Matthew Cuthbert, Sophie Canning as Dianna Barry and Elizabeth Buckley as Gilbert Blythe.
